For this year’s 39th annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, bring yourself and your eyeballs. Or at least one.
In honor of French surrealist artist Odilion Redon’s iconic “Eye Balloon,” the parade, themed “I of the Beholder,” will feature a projection of eye photos submitted online that float above the marchers.
The procession of witches, evil clowns, fairytale characters and a Steve Jobs, or two, begins at 7 p.m. on Mon., Oct 31. Those who want to be in the parade, for which a costume is required, can join the lineup on Sixth Ave. between Spring and Broome Sts. at 6:30 p.m.
The Village Halloween Parade is attended by more than 2 million people and seen on TV by more than 1 million. It’s listed as one of the “100 Things To Do Before You Die” and is the nation’s largest public Halloween celebration.
Dogs and their owners can kick off their Halloween festivities a little earlier this Sat., Oct. 22, at the 21st annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade, which will begin at Ninth St. between Avenues A and B.
Starting at 12 p.m., hundreds of costumed canines will march in the park and compete for thousands of dollars in prizes, including two iPods. All proceeds go to the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation for the maintenance and upkeep of the park’s newly restored dog run.
