A tourist was slashed in the face on the Upper West Side Wednesday morning, leaving blood covering the sidewalk where the violent attack occurred, police sources said.
According to law enforcement, the brazen daylight incident occurred outside 114 West 86th St. at around 10:23 a.m. on Nov. 20, within the 20th Precinct’s confines.
Surveillance video footage that amNewYork Metro obtained showed two men walking along the sidewalk when a man wearing a gray sweatshirt and black shorts ran up to them from behind, while holding a knife.
Police said one of the men, aged 55, was slashed across the face and ear, leaving the wounded man gushing blood.
Following the attack, eyewitnesses said, the victim crawled into the doorway of 114 West 86th St., holding tissues on his face to try and stop the bleeding while waiting for paramedics.
EMS rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital for treatment; he is expected to survive, cops say.
Meanwhile, the perpetrator fled on foot eastbound on 86th Street following the attack.
Police sources do not yet know the motive for the attack or if the victim was targeted at random.
The bloody incident occurred just 48 hours after an alleged madman went on a stabbing spree through Manhattan, killing three over the course of his Monday morning rampage. Ramon Rivera, a 51-year-old homeless man was arrested for the slayings and remains locked up on first-degree murder charges.
As for Wednesday’s slashing, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
