Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton sat just one seat from each other at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Thursday night, which came the day after their final presidential debate.
Traditionally, during election years, the dinner is attended by the presidential candidates, who put attacks on their opponents aside for friendly jokes. This year, however, some of Trump’s jokes may have gone too far, receiving boos instead of laughter from the audience.
Alfred Smith V, whose family hosts the dinner, called this year’s event “one for the record books.”
“Donald had some very solid minutes early on and eventually he crossed the line and took it a little too far,” he told CNN on Friday. “Hillary, on the other hand, was able to laugh at herself and at the same time not underplay any of the serious things that Donald Trump has said or done.”
Here’s a look at some of the jokes made by both Trump and Clinton during their speeches.
