Brooklyn cops are looking for the assailants who shot two teenagers outside a middle school Tuesday night as the borough continues to get hit by a rash of gun violence.
According to police sources, cops are searching for as many as six people who fired wildly on the street at about 6:47 p.m. on May 21, targeting the two victims standing outside the Maggie L. Walker Middle School at 225 Park Place in Crown Heights.
Police sources report that the two victims, both 17-year-old boys, were strolling down the street when they crossed paths with the group who the victims say were wearing masks. The two parties got into an argument before the shots rang out, law enforcement sources said.
Authorities said one of the 17-year-olds was shot in the chest, while the other took a bullet to his knee. Both were rushed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition; the teen with the leg injury was later released.
“These kids need resources and not have guns. Come on parents get them something to do for the summer,” local Bridget Clark said.
This latest shooting came hours after a man was shot in the stomach on Avenue H in Flatbush at about 12:30 p.m. on May 21. The victim was listed in stable condition.
Brooklyn has experienced a sudden rash of gun violence since Saturday. Among the reported incidents:
- Two men were shot and wounded on Osborn Street in Brownsville late on the night of May 18. One man died of his injuries; another is expected to recover. The shooting happened in the 73rd Precinct, which has seen its homicide rate triple so far in 2024, and shootings increase by 66.7%.
- Hours after the May 18 shooting, a man was shot and killed near the corner of Georgia and Wortman Avenues in East New York early on the morning of May 19.
- A woman suffered a gunshot wound while waiting at a bus stop near Church and Utica Avenues in Flatbush on the night of May 19. She is recovering from her injuries.
- A gunman on a Citi Bike shot and killed a man on Myrtle Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant on the night of May 20.
As for Tuesday night’s shooting in Flatbush, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
