Detectives combed a rain-slicked Upper East Side on Wednesday afternoon searching for a gunman who shot a man in the chest, authorities said.
Police are still trying to determine how a 20-year-old man wound up being shot and left on the sidewalk at East 93rd Street and 1st Avenue at around 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 28.
According to law enforcement sources, the victim took a bullet to the upper left side of his chest — the slug tearing through his body and exiting out of his back.
EMS whisked the wounded man to Cornell Hospital in stable condition. However, police reported, he was uncooperative with detectives trying to piece together how the shooting occurred, and who was to blame.
Law enforcement sources believe the man was shot somewhere inside of the Isaacs Houses before he fled the NYCHA complex and collapsed on the sidewalk.
A sheathed knife was found next to him and along with a bag.
Officers from the 19th Precinct and crime scene detectives were observed rushing around the area from 1st Avenue to the FDR Drive on Wednesday afternoon, and gathering inside the Isaacs Houses complex as they searched for evidence.
So far, the NYPD has not yet provided a description of the suspect. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
