In honor of Veterans Day, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum will pay tribute to the nation’s veterans during a special five-day “Salute to Service” beginning on Saturday, Nov. 7 and running through Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Throughout the five-day event, a StoryCorps animated short film featuring true stories of military service will be screened in the museum auditorium. Over the weekend, ticketed museum guests with children will be invited to participate in activities focusing on themes of heroism and patriotism, such as creating a quilt inspired by the National 9/11 Flag, and writing a postcard to a veteran or first responder.

On Nov. 7, K9 for Kids returns to the museum’s Education Center with trained disaster-relief canine Chance, and his handler, certified trauma responder Frank Shane.

On Nov. 9, American flags will be placed on the memorial at the names of the first responders killed in the attacks who were also veterans.

Nov. 9 through Nov. 11, Dr. Andrew Hammond, Mellon Foundation postdoctoral fellow, will present World Trade Center Steel in Afghanistan at the museum, describing some of the earliest and most significant post-9/11 missions carried out by U.S. Special Forces.

On Nov. 11, yellow roses will be placed on the memorial at the names of those killed in the attacks who served in the United States military.

Veterans will receive free admission to the museum during the five-day Salute to Service, and over the weekend, families accompanied by a veteran can get two half-price museum tickets.
