Police are searching for a violent perp who allegedly stabbed a man in the eye following an argument in Union Square early Saturday morning.
According to law enforcement sources, the 57-year-old victim was involved in a heated dispute with a man unknown to him inside the bustling 14th Street-Union Square subway station just before 1 a.m. on March 8.
As words between the pair escalated, the suspected then brandished a sharp object before using it to stab the victim in the right eye, police sources said.
The perp then fled the scene on foot, exiting the sprawling station entirely before officers from the 13th Precinct and Transit District 4 arrived, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the victim suffered an injury to his eye. EMS brought him to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
Right now, it is unclear what sparked the argument that led to the assault. But police on Saturday released video footage of the suspect, who remains at large.
So far, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the assault can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
Year to date, transit crime in the 13th Precinct is down 25% during the same period in 2024, according to the latest police data. However, overall crime in the precinct has increased over 10%, during the same time comparison the data shows.
