A Critical Mass cyclist seemed nonplussed last Friday evening patiently waiting for his ticket to be written at 14th St. and Fifth Ave., above. About 75 cyclists gathered at Union Square for the monthly Manhattan ride, then pedaled out together. Police quickly tried to quash the ride, stopping cyclists on 14th St. between University Pl. and Fifth Ave. Cyclists with lights and signaling devices were let proceed while more than a dozen without got tickets. A Critical Mass participant, Savitri D., wife of anti-consumerism activist Reverend Billy, stood reciting the First Amendment until every cyclist and officer had left the square as the ride went on its way.
