Hold on to your hats, New York! The weekend storms may have subsided, but rough weather is not over yet.
Strong winds will continue to blow across the city Monday morning and well into the afternoon and evening rush hour. A wind advisory remains in effect through 11 p.m. for the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester and other nearby areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Northwest winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of 50 to 55 mph. New Yorkers should take precautions as strong winds will likely blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages may result.
Isolated gusts of around 60 mph are alsopossible.
Wind advisory for NYC: Making driving difficult
Winds are expected to make driving difficult, so New Yorkers are urged to be careful on the roads. Empty tractor trailers and tandem trucks are banned on the following MTA bridges through 10 p.m.:
- Bronx-Whitestone Bridge
- Cross Bay Bridge
- Henry Hudson Bridge
- Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge
- Robert F. Kennedy Bridge
- Throgs Neck Bridge
- Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
The pedestrian walkways at the Cross Bay Bridge and Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will also be closed. The pedestrian walkways at the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge and Henry Hudson Bridge will remain open, weather permitting.
Additionally, southbound B and Q trains service was suspended between Prospect Park and Brighton Beach / Coney Island – Stillwell Avenue as of 8:56 a.m. because of a fallen tree.
The NYC Ferry service along the Bay Ridge, St. George and Sunset Park landers are suspended, according to Notify NYC. Travelers are urged to consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time.

NYC’s temperatures Monday will reach 51 degrees with a low of 40 along with a mix of clouds and sun and a 1 percent chance of precipitation. New Yorkers can expect a similar forecast for Tuesday, which will be mostly sunny with a high of 64 degrees and a low of 45.
