A former Playboy Playmate jumped from a midtown hotel with her 7-year-old son Friday morning, killing herself and the boy, police said.
Stephanie Adams, 47, who appeared as “Miss November 1992” in Playboy magazine, and her son, Vincent, were found on a second-floor landing of the Gotham Hotel on East 46th Street after police were called at 8:15 a.m., Chief of Manhattan Detectives William Aubry said during a news conference hours later. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Vincent’s death was ruled a homicide, while his mother’s was determined to be a suicide, police said Monday. It remained unclear if Adams was holding her son or somehow forced him to jump as well.
Adams checked into a 25th-floor suite at the hotel with her son on Thursday, Aubry said.
Investigators were led to the second-floor landing after a man reported hearing a loud noise from the area. Hotel guest Mark Jones, visiting from London, noted that tents were set up for the detectives behind Gotham.
“They called and told us not to go onto the balcony and that everything’s fine. That was around 9 a.m.,” Jones, who’s staying on the 12th floor, said. “It’s really sad, obviously. It’s quite shocking.”
Adams was reportedly in a court battle with her estranged husband, Charles Nicolai, over whether or not she could bring their son with her to Spain this summer, the New York Post reported. The judge reportedly sided with her husband on Wednesday, the paper said.
