Police in Queens cuffed a man who allegedly stabbed a 23-year-old woman multiple times inside a subway station in Queens on Sunday night.
Law enforcement sources said the incident occurred on the mezzanine level of the Jamaica-Van Wyck station on the E line in Richmond Hill at around 8:30 p.m. on July 28.
Officers from the 102nd Precinct and NYPD Transit Bureau, in responding to a 911 call of a female stabbed at the station, found the victim bloodied from multiple stab wounds to her torso.
She was taken to nearby Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
According to ABC 7, a good Samaritan was able to hold the suspect until police arrived. The suspect — identified as 24-year-old Randol Contreras, of 241st Street in the Bronx — was charged with first-degree attempted robbery with serious physical injury and criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The incident occurred after city officials in April reported a 6% decrease in subway crime year to date compared to the same time last year.
