A motorcycle rider is in serious condition after he struck a teen on a two-wheel Razor scooter on North 4th Street near Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg Wednesday night.
The motorcycle rider was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with multiple injuries, but was expected to survive according police from the 94th Precinct. The 19-year-old scooter rider was also injured, but his injuries were not considered serious.
The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. as the motorcycle rider was driving west on North 4th Street on his Honda, when he inexplicably struck the teen on the scooter, causing the motorcycle to go out of control, strike the rearview mirror of a parked car, and then hit the ground. The impact sent the motorcycle rider flying onto the pavement.
Good Samaritans ran to their aid, with one running into a local Rapid Med and bringing out a doctor to treat the injured motorcycle rider until EMTs could rush him to Bellevue Hospital.
Jean Haimowitz, whose husband Mitch owns the new Midici Napolitano Pizza and Bar in front of the crash site, said she ran out when her friends said they heard the crash.
“I went out there and I saw the two people lying in the street, two bodies were on the road,” said Haimowitz who blocked the traffic from coming onto the street as people ran to the aid of the injured. “The guy on the scooter had no shoes on, he tried to get up, but they (Good Samaritans) were trying to hold him down. But the guy who was on the motorcycle was unconscious.”
Police at first thought the incident would require a collision investigation by highway, but it was soon learned that the motorcycle rider had regained consciousness and was expected to survive. However, the cause of the crash was still under investigation by police.
