The annual Puerto Rican Day Parade is one of Manhattan’s largest, which translates to 1 million (or more) attendees – and potential traffic woes for motorists – converging on Sunday.
Musician and philanthropist Ricky Martin is this year’s grand marshal; parade honorees include singer-songwriter La India, professional golfer Chi Chi Rodríguez and former MLB player and coach Edgar Martínez.
The parade also will pay posthumous tribute to transgender activist Sylvia Rivera, a leader of the Stonewall uprising, which helped launch the modern LGBTQ civil rights movement.
They’ll be making their way down Fifth Avenue starting at 11:30 a.m., so take note of the following street closures – in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday – related to the festivities.
