The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is looking for the suspect who brutally assaulted a man while hurling homophobic remarks inside a Harlem subway station last month.
According to the investigation, the 25-year-old victim was taking selfies with his phone camera while waiting on the platform of the 125th St. station on Dec. 29, when the suspect approached and began his bigoted tirade.
The perp allegedly called the victim a f—-t and demanded that he delete the photos.
Shortly after his verbal screed, the suspect punched the victim in the face multiple times, leaving him badly bruised at around 8 p.m.
The bigot quickly fled the station before police arrived, and paramedics treated the victim on the scene, according to police.
No arrests have yet been made in the homophobic assault, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident, which occurred with just days left in 2023, capped off a year filled with around 98 hate crimes targeting victims based on their sexual orientation, according to police data.
That number marked a notable uptick from 2022, when the NYPD recorded 82 bigotry-motivated crimes targeting gay and lesbian victims.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, on Twitter @NYPDTips.
