Police in the Bronx are working to find the suspect who shot two people, killing one of them, outside an apartment building on Saturday night.
Authorities said the gunfire erupted at about 8:18 p.m. on July 13 outside of 2247 Webster Ave. in Fordham Heights.
Officers from the 46th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about an assault in progress, arrived on the scene and found Thomas McCellan, 28, of East 171st Street in the Bronx shot in his torso. They also located the second victim, a 26-year-old woman, who sustained a bullet wound to her hand.
EMS rushed both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where McCellan was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman, meanwhile, was listed in stable condition.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. An NYPD source did not provide information regarding a possible motive, or a description of the suspect.
The 46th Precinct has seen the murder rate soar in 2024; through July 7, according to the most recent CompStat report, the command cataloged 15 homicides year-to-date, 10 more than the number tallied at the same time last year.
Shootings, however, are down slightly for the year in the command, with 20 incidents and 24 victims, down from the 22 shootings with 29 victims that occurred at the same point in 2023.
