Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped during a four-alarm house fire in Brooklyn on Friday evening.
The fire started just after 5:45 p.m. on March 22 on the first floor in the rear of a home located on East 3rd Street in Kensington, according to the FDNY.
Firefighters rescued the woman during their primary search of the three-story residence as solar panels on the roof caused the roof to collapse. The fire rapidly extended throughout the building, according to FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh.
Paramedics from Hatzalah transported the woman to Maimonides Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition, according to Assistant Chief of Operations Kevin Woods.
Battalion 48 quickly evacuated members consisting of 135 members from the two buildings and a conducted a personnel accountability report for all members before units went into a defensive operation as the structure stability was compromised by the fire. Responding units used six hose-lines and four tower ladders to knock down the main body of fire, according to FDNY. The fire was placed under control at 8:30 p.m.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the FDNY Fire Marshals Office.
