An early-morning Hamilton Heights shooting on Sunday left a 39-year-old man dead, police reported.
Law enforcement sources said the gunfire erupted at about 3:02 a.m. near the corner of West 143rd Street and Broadway.
Officers from the 30th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, found the victim at the location with a gunshot wound to his chest.
EMS rushed him to nearby Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Police have not yet released his identity, pending family notification.
Police sources did not provide any background information about a possible motive, or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
According to information posted on the Citizen app, an eyewitness reported seeing two men armed with guns fleeing northbound on Broadway after the shooting. Police could not immediately confirm those details.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
