A homeless man was arrested in connection to an attempted robbery that left a man injured over the weekend in Midtown.
Dominic Staton, 34, was charged with attempted robbery, attempted grand larceny and assault.
According to the NYPD, at 10:48 a.m. on March 27 a 73-year-old man was inside a convenience store located at 618 8th Avenue purchasing lottery tickets when Staton allegedly approached him and tried to grab his wallet out of his hand. The victim resisted and left the store with his wallet.
As the victim crossed the street, Staton allegedly followed and knocked the victim to the ground and kicked him multiple times. He tried to take the victim’s wallet once again, but was unsuccessful and allegedly fled the scene on foot into the 42 St – Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station.
The victim suffered pain, swelling and an abrasion to his left eye and was taken by paramedics to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that Stanton was recognized at Harlem Hospital prior to his arrest and authorities were alerted to his whereabouts.
