Detectives in Queens need the public’s help in finding the man behind a deadly assault over a parking spot that claimed the life of a 76-year-old man last month.
The NYPD released images Friday evening of the perpetrator wanted for the attack, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on April 5 in the area of 167th Street and Hillside Avenue in Jamaica.
According to police, the suspect pulled up to the location inside a four-door sedan, then got out of the vehicle and confronted the victim, 76-year-old Muhammad Hossain, who lived six blocks away on 173rd Street. The two men became engaged in an argument over a parking spot, sources familiar with the case said.
Moments later, the words turned violent, authorities said, when the perpetrator punched and pushed Hossain, knocking him to the ground. The fall caused Hossain to strike his head on the sidewalk, and he subsequently lost consciousness, law enforcement sources said.
Following the attack, police reported, the perpetrator returned to the black four-door sedan, which then sped away eastbound along Hillside Avenue.
The incident was reported to the 107th Precinct. EMS rushed Hossain, who suffered head trauma, to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition. Police said the man died three days later, and investigators subsequently declared his death a homicide.
As shown in the images police provided, the suspect wore a black hooded sweatshirt and jacket along with a black face mask, gray pants and white sneakers.
