Police in Manhattan are looking for the subway slasher who attacked a man while waiting for a train at Union Square early on Monday morning.
Law enforcement sources said the assault occurred at about 3:45 a.m. on July 1 on the Uptown-bound platform of the N/Q/R lines at Union Square.
Officers from the 13th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 4, in responding to calls for aid, found the 30-year-old male victim with a slash wound to his chin.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police determined that an unidentified suspect sliced the man on the platform, then fled out of the station to the street above, to parts unknown.
Police do not yet know what prompted the bloody assault.
EMS rushed the wounded man to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of his injuries; he was listed in stable condition.
Transit crime was down citywide for the first half of 2024, and the 13th Precinct was no exception. According to the most recent CompStat report, the command saw 28 transit crimes year-to-date through June 23, down 30% from the 40 reported at the same point in 2023.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation into Monday’s assault, police said.
