Brooklyn detectives charged two teenagers with attempted murder for firing gunshots near a public housing complex earlier this year.
Josiah Brown, 18, of St. Marks Avenue was picked up on March 2, while an unidentified 14-year-old boy was arrested the following day, police announced Tuesday. The 14-year-old suspect’s identity was withheld due to his young age.
Law enforcement sources Brown and the 14-year-old suspect — along with a third perpetrator, an unidentified 17-year-old boy arrested previously — each fired shots in the area of 300 Dumont Ave., near the Dumont Houses, in Brownsville at about 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 13.

Though no one was injured by the gunfire, cops said the bullets wound up striking a nearby storefront and a parked, unoccupied vehicle.
Detectives first picked up the 17-year-old male suspect on Jan. 24. He was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Brown was charged on March 2 with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. The 14-year-old suspect, meanwhile, was hit with three counts each of attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
The shootings occurred in a neighborhood plagued by gun violence in recent years; last summer, the NYPD stepped up resources around Brownsville to help combat shootings. The 73rd Precinct has seen just four shootings year-to-date through March 2, down from nine reported at the same point in 2024.
