West Village stabbing: Cops seek suspect who knifed woman in neck on street

Police in the West Village are looking for the suspect who stabbed a woman early on Wednesday morning.

The bloody assault occurred at about 6:17 a.m. on Sept. 11 near the corner of 6th Avenue and West 3rd Street. 

Officers from the 6th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, responded to the location and found the victim, a 45-year-old woman stabbed once in the neck.

The motive for the stabbing remains unknown and under investigation, police sources said.

EMS rushed the woman to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, and is expected to make a recovery.

Detectives, meanwhile, are looking for her attacker, whom police described as a man with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing all black clothing, and fled in an unknown direction following the stabbing.

The 6th Precinct has seen a 26% decrease in felony assaults year-to-date through Sept. 8, according to the most recent CompStat report.
