An affordable housing lottery has opened in Hudson Yards — though some may question just how affordable some of the units are.
Located at 550 10th Ave., the new units are said to be affordable to households earning between 70 and 125 percent of the area median income.
Of the 114 units, 42 are studios ranging in price from $1,655 to $3,015 a month; 44 1-bedrooms ranging from $1,769 to $3,225 a month; and 28 2-bedrooms ranging from $2,114 to $3,861 a month. Rent includes gas, heat and hot water.
The units are offered at a time when rents are soaring across New York City. Median rents across the five boroughs for an apartment were about $3,800 at the start of June — meaning that the high-end studio apartment offered in Hudson Yards, at $3,015 a month, only saves the qualified renter $785 monthly.
The units are pet-friendly and feature in-unit dishwashers, cable and satellite TV, high-speed internet, air conditioning and energy-efficient appliances. Building amenities include access to the outdoor terrace, lounge, recreation rooms, co-working spaces, a fitness center, an on-site resident manager, security cameras, elevator access, storage, and a recycling center.
The lottery ends on Oct. 9, 2024. To apply visit the listing on New York City’s Housing Connect website.
