For the single ladies in Brooklyn wondering where all the single men are, the answer is south Brooklyn.
The blog Visualizing NYC released a map in February plotting where New York’s single adults live, based on data from the U.S. census, and southern Brooklyn as a whole shows a higher concentration of single men than single women compared to northern Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Brighton Beach specifically has 20% more single men than women under the age of 30 and 17% more single men under 40. Northern Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Bed-Stuy, where millennials tend to gravitate, have about an even number of single men and women, while the Fort Greene, Park Slope and Red Hook area has as much as 33% more single women under 30.
A previous study by Visualizing NYC found that the five boroughs altogether have more single men than single women, but newer data by neighborhood proves why it’s so hard to find single men in Manhattan and northern Brooklyn: They’ve all moved south.
