The Giants are in play for the No. 1 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft — the confirmation of yet another lost season for a once-proud franchise.
Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have once again failed to build a team that at least contends. Instead, the Giants are a laughing stock, saddled with a quarterback who is not the answer and leading an offense that has no bite.
Luckily for them, there is an opt-out in Daniel Jones’ contract following this season, offering them an easy way to get the albatross of a four-year, $160 million deal off the books.
Given their current standing at 2-8 — tied for the worst record in the NFL — Schoen and Daboll will get their first chance to draft a quarterback of their choice while with the Giants, and they will have their pick of the litter should they continue losing at this pace.
The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the No. 1 pick only on the strength of their schedule. The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns are within a half-game of the Giants at 2-7, while the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints are a game back at 3-7.
The need of the team that wins the No. 1 pick obviously dictates how the draft will play out, but with two months remaining in the season, the odds favor a quarterback going off the board first. That is, as long as the Giants remain in the mix for the top selection.
