The New York Giants have made their pitch to Aaron Rodgers, and now, they are just waiting.
In hopes of landing at least a veteran bridge quarterback to have in their back pocket for the 2025 season, especially considering a passer could be the move with the No. 3 pick at the NFL Draft next month, Big Blue is one of the finalists alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 41-year-old future Hall-of-Famer.
Multiple reports had disclosed that there was mutual interest between the former Jets quarterback and the Giants, with ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reporting on Wednesday that the “situation does not appear to be a money thing from the Giants’ perspective. They are just waiting for his decision. A resolution is expected today.”
Rodgers was cut by the Jets upon the arrival of new general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn — ending an unsuccessful two-year experiment across the hall at MetLife Stadium after being acquired from the Green Bay Packers.
The four-time MVP completed 63% of his passes last season for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. While he showed that he was unable to throw the deep ball consistently anymore, among other issues, in his first year back from an Achilles injury, Rodgers is still a significant upgrade for Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.
Both members of Big Blue’s brass are fighting to keep their jobs beyond 2025, with the void under center proving to be the team’s biggest issue. They cut Daniel Jones a year and a half into his four-year, $160 million deal and ended a 3-14 season with Tommy DeVito, Tim Boyle, and Drew Lock taking snaps down the stretch.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not Rodgers finds the Giants as the most attractive landing spot. A team in transition that is scrambling to get back to relevance is a tough sell compared to a more stable Steelers team that has made the playoffs in 12 of Mike Tomlin’s 18 seasons as head coach.
While Pittsburgh lost one-half of their quarterback equation earlier this week when Justin Fields signed a three-year deal with the Jets, Russell Wilson’s future appears to hinge solely on Rodgers.
“It appears that Russell Wilson will be Plan B for those teams,” NFL.com’s Judy Battista reported on Thursday. “Whichever one does not get Rodgers will then turn and try to get Wilson.”
After getting a late start to 2024 due to injury, the 36-year-old completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.
