ELMONT, NY — New York Rangers star defenseman Adam Fox suffered an apparent left shoulder injury, forcing him to leave Tuesday night’s rout of the Islanders early in the third period.

The incident occurred roughly three minutes into the final frame with the Blueshirts leading 5-1. While defending in his own zone, Fox committed a hooking penalty on Islanders forward Kyle MacLean, prompting both skaters to fall to the ice.

While on his back, Fox immediately clutched his left shoulder and proceeded to gingerly hold his arm as he got up and skated straight down the tunnel. Brennan Othmann served the penalty for him.

The 27-year-old blue-liner, who won the 2021 Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman, has five goals and 43 assists in 58 games this season. He recently completed a run in the 4 Nations Face-Off with Team USA, which was narrowly defeated by Canada in the championship game on Thursday.
