Yankees stars facing “concerning” and “severe” injuries

Things just keep getting worse for the New York Yankees. Only a few days after Luis Gil was shut down for the spring with a high-grade lat strain, the club’s ace Gerrit Cole underwent an MRI on his throwing elbow.

Cole, who missed the first two months of last season with an injury in the same spot, told reporters on Saturday that he’s “hoping for the best” but “concerned” for what the tests may show.

Earlier this spring, New York announced that righty slugger Giancarlo Stanton would begin the season on the IL due to lingering issues in both his elbows. But on Saturday, Stanton revealed that the injuries are “considered severe in both elbows,” and if surgery is necessary, it would be season-ending.

On Tuesday, March 4, the New York Jets released All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, per multiple reports, just two days after it was revealed that the team was taking trade calls on him.

This move saved the Jets $29.9 million in cap space, bringing New York’s cap number to $44.57 million.

Gang Green traded for Adams just five months ago on Oct. 15, in an attempt to save the season and maybe a few jobs along the way. Former Jets general manager Joe Douglas paired Adams up with his former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, but the season took a downward spiral.

Shortly after, Douglas was shown the door and in January, New York hired Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey to be the team’s new head coach and general manager pairing.

He joined the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Rangers blow back-to-back third period leads

Chris Drury was busy in the days leading up to the NHL trade deadline, sending Reilly Smith to the Vegas Golden Knights, acquiring Carson Soucy from the Vancouver Canucks and shipping Erik Brannstrom to the Buffalo Sabres for Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

On the ice, the Rangers have slipped out of a playoff spot following back-to-back overtime losses to the Washington Capitals and the Ottawa Senators. As of Monday morning, the Blueshirts are third in the Wild Card with 68 points, trailing Ottawa and the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final two playoff spots.

Brock Nelson’s 12-year run with the New York Islanders has come to an end — the veteran center has been traded to the Colorado Avalanche along with William Dufour for prospect and center Calum Ritchie, defenseman Oliver Kylington, a first-round pick in either 2026 or 2027, and a conditional third-round pick.

Nelson, 33, becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and after turning down a reported three-year contract extension, was dealt to a Stanley Cup contender in the Avalanche.

Nelson ends his Islanders career as one of the best forwards of the last 35 years. He is one of just five players in franchise history with 900 games played, passing the legendary Bobby Nystrom on Tuesday night for fourth all-time (901).  He ranks fifth in team history with 294 goals and his 572 points rank eighth.

NYCFC gets first win of the season in 2-1 win over Orlando City

Maxi Moralez stands out as NYCFC gets their first win of the season in a dramatic 2-1 victory against Orlando City.

After two disappointing results between Inter Miami and LAFC the last two weeks, the Pigeons finally earned all three points thanks to a strong offensive performance from Moralez. Goals from Alonso Martinez and Hannes Wolf sealed the deal for the boys in blue.

Moralez, specifically, showed just how important he is to the squad, ending the match with two shots (one of which hit the woodwork), three chances created and nine passes into the final third.

With the win, NYCFC’s 2025 record is now one win, one draw, and one loss.
