Brandon Nimmo has had plantar fasciitis since May and reaggravated it during the New York Mets’ postseason run to the NLCS.

The veteran outfielder told Tim Britton of The Athletic following New York’s Game 1 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers as he was seen limping throughout the game. He said he exacerbated the injury during Game 3 of the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies last Tuesday.

Nimmo, however, plans on playing through the discomfort, per multiple reports.

The 31-year-old corner outfielder is the longest-tenured player in the organization, making his MLB debut in 2016 — just one season after they won the National League pennant.

He did not appear in their Wild Card Game loss to the San Francisco Giants in 2022, meaning he had only made the postseason once before in his career — a three-game Wild Card Series loss to the San Diego Padres in 2022.

In eight postseason games this October, Nimmo entered Game 2 of the NLCS, batting .241 with one home run and four RBI.

“I was like, oh man, I’m right on the cusp, and I’ll be a part of this, and we’ll do this every year,” Nimmo said after his team closed out the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLDS. “And then it’s 2024 now, and I just won my first postseason series, the last series [the Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers], and now, we won the NLDS here. You just realize how hard it is and how many things have to go right.”

Nimmo has been a fixture atop the Mets’ lineup for years, but should the plantar fasciitis become unbearable, the Mets have some corner-outfield insurance. Not only can Tyrone Taylor play left with Harrison Bader in center, but Jeff McNeil was added to the NLCS roster after recovering from a broken wrist suffered in September. The natural second baseman has also proven to be a reliable corner outfielder, as well.
