The sportsbooks are not expecting much from Daniel Jones in what will be his final audition for the New York Giants’ starting quarterback role.

Entering the second year of a four-year, $160 million contract that features a team option come season’s end, Jones is back after a disastrous 2023 campaign that featured on-field struggles behind a porous offensive line, a lack of outside playmakers, and a torn ACL that ended his season after six games.

General manager Joe Schoen has done what he can to set Jones up to succeed. He revamped the offensive line with the signings of Jon Runyan Jr., Jermaine Eluemunor, and Greg Van Roten.

With the No. 6 overall pick at the 2024 Draft, they took explosive LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, who has already shown that he is ready to take on the role of New York’s top playmaker. Suddenly the Giants’ receiving room appears to be teeming with young talent as Nabers joins Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt while veteran support is available with Darius Slayton and Allen Robinson.

Even in Jones’ best season, 2022, he came nowhere near sniffing 4,000 yards passing. He threw for 3,205 in 16 games while rushing for an additional 708, providing Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll with a lesser version of the quarterback they had during their time with the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen.

His rushing prowess may be limited after recovering from that surgically-repaired knee injury, meaning he could throw the ball a bit more, but he still has the second-worst odds to reach the 4,000-yard mark, according to DraftKings.
