New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman disclosed that slugger Giancarlo Stanton received a second round of PRP injections in his elbows and is expected to rejoin the team at spring training facilities this weekend.

Stanton, who is dealing with tennis elbow in both arms, will not be able to participate much in any sort of baseball activities.

The update finally provides some clarity on the 35-year-old’s absence, which began with an injury but was later shrouded in further mystery when manager Aaron Boone said that there were personal reasons in play, as well, which prompted the reigning ALCS MVP to fly back to New York.

The team has already confirmed that Stanton will begin the 2025 season on the injured list.

Elbow issues had been lingering with the designated hitter dating back to last season, though he trudged through it and put on a memorable display in the postseason, hitting seven home runs with 16 RBI in 14 games during the Yankees’ run to their first American League pennant since 2009.

With Stanton sidelined, further pressure falls onto the shoulders of New York’s new acquisitions, Cody Bellinger and Pau Goldschmidt, to pick up the slack to provide some form of protection around Aaron Judge. Meanwhile, the DH job in the interim could go to the likes of Dominic Smith or even Spencer Jones — both of whom are enjoying solid showings during spring training.
