The New York Giants kicked off their 100th anniversary celebration on Monday by unveiling a commemorative logo that will be featured on the team’s uniforms during the 2024 season.
The logo features nods to old traditions and homes throughout the franchise’s history. The shield serving as the backdrop was designed in the shape of the Polo Grounds, which was the team’s first home in 1925. The zeros in the “100” are shaped like the old Giants Stadium, which housed the team from 1976-2010.
At the bottom of the logo is the famous logo of a player throwing a football, which was a focal point of the team’s logo in different variations from 1945 to 1960. That player was nicknamed “The Duke,” in honor of long-time owner Wellington Mara.
Above him is eight laces of a football representing the eight world championships won by the franchise.
“The entire Mara family is proud to commemorate the 100th season of New York Giants football,” co-owner John Mara said. “As we reflect on this landmark season, I think about my family, and most specifically my father, grandfather, and uncle who dedicated their entire lives to the Giants and the NFL. We would not be who we are without their vision and leadership. When we became partners with the Tisch family in 1991, our franchise grew even stronger. Together, the Mara and Tisch families are proud to celebrate the history of our franchise as we look to the future of Giants football.”
To continue the team’s 100th-season celebration, the team will also unveil their top 100 players in franchise history, which will be unveiled throughout the summer beginning in July.
NFL Network will also premiere a documentary on Wellington Mara’s life titled “The Duke.”
On June 20, the team will host a panel at The Theater at Madison Square Garden that will feature discussions covering team history, a preview of the 2024 season with current players and staff, artifacts from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and 100th-season merchandise. Over 20 legends are expected to participate, including Eli Manning, Harry Carson, Tiki Barber, George Martin, Jason Sehorn, Bill Parcells, and Tom Coughlin.
On Aug. 4, the team will celebrate its 18 years spent at Yankee Stadium between 1956 and 1973 by giving out Eli Manning bobbleheads when the Yankees host the Toronto Blue Jays.
“I first saw the Giants play in person in the early 1960s when my father would take me to games at Yankee Stadium,” co-owner Steve Tisch said. “Going to Giants games was a wonderfully magical ritual. It inspired my lifelong love of the Giants. When my father became an equal partner of the Giants in 1991, it was the realization of a longtime dream. Our family has relished our association with the Giants and look forward to many years of success in the future.”
