Giants declare Daniel Jones OUT for Week 8 battle vs. Jets, team noncommittal to QB’s return in ’23

On the same day, the New York Jets got their All-Pro corners back from concussions, the New York Giants seem to be just as banged up as the week prior.

New York declared quarterback Daniel Jones out for the Week 8 contest against cross-town rivals. It will be the third straight game the franchise quarterback has missed with a neck injury he suffered in the team’s 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins in early October.

Making matters worse for the former sixth-overall pick, head coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal about Jones returning for the remainder of the 2023 season – a change in recent remarks.

“I don’t have a crystal ball with injuries. He’s getting better, and we’ll see where he is next week,” Daboll said Friday.

Through five games this season, Jones has thrown six interceptions to two touchdowns while completing over 68% of his passes. Due to a rash of injuries along the offensive line, coupled with a slight regression from last season’s career year, Jones has been under fire while being sacked 28 times in five games. This all came after the Duke product signed a four-year, $160 million extension this offseason.

In Jones’ place, the Giants will turn to veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor against the Jets. Taylor threw for 279 yards and two touchdown passes in New York’s 14-7 win over Washington last week. At 2-5, the G-Men will look to Taylor to try and get them out of an early season hole.

The Giants face off against the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm – ET.
