The New York Giants continued a strong start to the NFL’s free agency period on Tuesday morning, agreeing to a reported three-year, $45 million deal with star safety Jevon Holland.
The 25-year-old is a major upgrade at the position, as he projects to slot directly into the team’s starting lineup opposite 2024 second-round pick Tyler Nubin, who started 13 games during his rookie campaign before undergoing ankle surgery.
Holland started 57 of his 60 career games over the last four years with the Miami Dolphins, posting five interceptions and 25 pass break-ups, 301 total tackles, four forced fumbles, and five sacks.
His signing comes shortly after the acquisition of New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo — a clear statement of intent by general manager Joe Schoen that such holes on the defensive side of the ball had to be addressed.
Schoen depleted his safety corps. last offseason when he allowed Xavier McKinney to walk in free agency to the Green Bay Packers on a four-year, $67 million deal. His priorities have shifted since then, though, with top dollar being paid for Holland’s services.
Defense has been the Giants’ name of the game to kick off he league’s free agency period. Along with Adebo, New York also reeled in former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Chauncey Golston, defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, and linebacker Chris Board; solid moves to improve the roster while the wait for a solution at the quarterback position continues.
