The New York Giants are reportedly fielding trade calls for their No. 3 overall selection at the 2025 NFL Draft, as first reported by ESPN’s Peter Schrager.
With the Tennessee Titans officially going on the clock on Thursday night to start the selection process, the Giants and the Cleveland Browns at No. 2 have received calls over the last two days. Per Schrager, they are not “outwardly rejecting those overtures.”
Interested parties are likely desperate to improve their chances of drafting three of top prospects available in the class of 2025: Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
The Giants have been heavily linked to Carter in recent weeks since they signed veteran passers Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, softening their need to take Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with that No. 3 pick.
Any offer would likely have to bowl over general manager Joe Schoen, who is likely on his final chance to prove to co-owner John Mara that he can build a contending team after surviving a 3-14 campaign last year, one of the worst in the franchise’s 100-year history.
Carter injects more game-changing talent within the defense, which has always been the calling card of the most successful of Giants teams.
There is an obvious need to fill multiple holes, though, and a treasure trove of draft capital for that No. 3 pick could add to the prospective talent pool. The Giants are currently slated to make eight picks in a draft that has seen very little movement leading up to its festivities.
Each of the 32 teams owns its first-round pick, per ESPN, making this the closest to the start of a draft without any first-round trades since the common draft era began in 1967.
