The New York Islanders will face the New York Rangers at MetLife Stadium in February 2024 as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series, as first reported by Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period on Tuesday.
The Islanders have yet to respond to amNewYork’s request for comment confirming the reports.
The matchup between the two Metropolitan Division rivals will be one of two games played at the home of the Giants and Jets — the other being the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers.
For the Islanders, this will be their second-ever outdoor game having also played the Rangers in the NHL’s Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium back in 2014 where they lost 2-1.
The Blueshirts have taken part in four outdoor games including two Winter Classics, which is the NHL’s marquee event on New Year’s Day, in 2012 and 2018. They are 4-0 all-time.
ESPN’s Kevin Weekes initially reported in February that the league was looking to expand its outdoor sites to more football stadiums, specifically naming MetLife Stadium and a game featuring the Devils, who would be considered the host team given that the venue is in New Jersey despite its football teams playing under the New York geographical moniker.
