The accolades keep coming for the Williams brothers in New York. After the Jets had Quinnen gain First-Team All-Pro honors for his work in 2022, the eldest has broken out in his fifth NFL season.
Quincy Williams, like his brother last year, was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October Thursday afternoon. In four games, Williams registered 45 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown. New York has won three in a row thanks to the exploits of their entire defense.
During this three-game run, Williams has been a member that has come through with clutch plays throughout. His back-to-back sacks on Russell Wilson in Denver led to a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown to ice the game. It was the first time a Jets defender registered two sacks in the final 2:00 since 1991.
He also recovered a fumble and led the team in tackles in the Jets 20-14 upset win over the Eagles just three weeks ago.
“I couldn’t be prouder of him and his hard work,” fellow linebacker C.J. Mosley said of Williams. “He is one of the fastest linebackers in the league and I always try to ask him, do you watch your cheetah videos in the morning or before games? Do you ever see a cheetah just run as soon as it sees its prey? Nah, he is calculating every single step, he is trying to see which way he is going, and as soon as he sees that spot, he is hunting this season.”
Williams is currently tied for 12th in the NFL in tackles (71) and 11th in TFLs (8). His biggest improvement has come in pass coverage with 6 passes defended – second-most among linebackers.
“It’s year three in the scheme, trusting my teammates and my coaches, so when they call the play, I’m just doing my job,” Williams said. “Then like I said, working out with C.J. during the week so we see the same thing, we talk the same language, and we are on the same page.”
