The New York Jets are requesting an interview with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for their vacant head-coaching position, per multiple reports.
The 52-year-old has been Detroit’s defensive coordinator since 2021 and has built a top-10 unit to support one of the most explosive offenses in the game. The Lions rank seventh in points allowed this season and have yielded the second-fewest passing touchdowns and the fifth-fewest rushing yards.
His defense put together its best performance of the season on Sunday night by limiting the high-powered Minnesota Vikings to just nine points to clinch a 15-2 record and the NFC North title.
Glenn and Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson are believed to be two of the most sought-after head-coaching candidates on the market along with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. The Jets already interviewed Vrabel and will speak with former head coach Rex Ryan on Tuesday.
Glenn spent 15 seasons in the NFL as a cornerback, with more than half of them coming with the Jets from 1994 to 2001. He made two Pro Bowls with Gang Green and was a fixture of a defense that helped lead the team to an appearance at the 1998 AFC Championship Game.
