The New York Jets have interviewed what likely will be their most experienced candidate for their vacant general manager position, having completed a sit-down with former Atlanta Falcons executive Thomas Dimitroff.

The 58-year-old spent 13 years as GM of the NFC South team, which featured the drafting of future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones. Dimitroff traded five picks with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the No. 6 spot at the 2011 draft to take Jones.
The two-time NFL Executive of the Year (2008, 2010) ultimately built the team that won the NFC Championship in 2016 before collapsing in Super Bowl LI to the New England Patriots.
Dimitroff rose through the NFL ranks as a scout before landing a job with the New England Patriots as their director of college scouting from 2003-07.
Since leaving the Falcons, he created a football analytics company, SumerSports, in January of 2022 — something that could potentially sit well with owner Woody Johnson and The 33rd Team, headed by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, who are overseeing the search.
The Jets fired GM Joe Douglas in November after five-plus disappointing seasons running the team’s front office. Despite going all-in to build a potential playoff contender by acquiring the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, the Jets are sitting at 4-10 this season and have been eliminated from postseason contention.
