The New York Rangers and veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick agreed to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
The 39-year-old remains a reliable backup for Igor Shesterkin, with a 9-6-2 record, 3.14 goals-against average, .896 save percentage, and three shutouts in 21 appearances this season — his second with the team. He is just the sixth different Rangers goalie in the last 50 years to post three or more shutouts in a single season at the age of 39 or older.
Quick has achieved multiple milestones with the Blueshirts this year, becoming the first US-born goalie and 15th overall netminder in NHL history to earn 400 wins. He is also the 17th goalie and second US-born stopper in league history to appear in 800 career games.
It appears as though he will put the finishing touches to a Hall-of-Fame-worthy career in New York. A three-time Stanley Cup champion — twice with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and 2014, once with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023 — Quick ranks 14th in NHL history with 402 wins, 18th in shutouts, sixth among goalies with 750-plus games played in save percentage and fourth in goals-against average.
