Justin Verlander injury update: Mets SP showing reduced inflammation in shoulder

New York Mets starting pitcher Justin Verlander underwent follow-up imaging on his strained right shoulder on Wednesday, which showed reduced inflammation, the team announced.

He will continue throwing before the team provides another update, but it appears to be good news for the veteran ace who is waiting to make his Mets debut.

Just hours before the first pitch of the 2023 season last week, the team announced that the 40-year-old suffered a low-grade strain of the teres major muscle in the right shoulder. He was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to March 28 but was never shut down from throwing.

By that timeline, and with the seemingly positive development, it suggests that Verlander could be on the mound at Citi Field by the end of the IL designation on April 11, which would come against the San Diego Padres.
