Alvin Kamara has been the workhorse for the New Orleans Saints over the past five seasons.
New Orleans may need to be prepared to start the 2022 season without him though.
According to reports, Kamara is bracing for a six-week suspension stemming from a felony charge from the pro-bowl this past year.
The running-back was questioned, arrested and charged (following the conclusion of the 2022 Pro-Bowl) with battery resulting in substantial bodily harm stemming from an altercation at a Las Vegas nightclub the night prior. The Saints’ star was allegedly involved in the attack that left one man severely injured.
The former Tennessee running-back reportedly told the cops that he ” threw two punches.”
Kamara’s hearing has been moved to August 1st which could push the league’s decision on appropriate punishment further down the road.
Kamara and the Personal Conduct Policy
According to the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, “Violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence or sexual assault will result in a baseline six-game suspension without pay, with more if aggravating factors are present.”
The league has not commented on their investigation of Kamara but commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed the NFL was “aware” of the initial arrest when it happened.
New Orleans drafted new pieces to their offense with Chris Olave and Trevor Penning, and have also brought back fan-favorite Mark Ingram. Losing their top back for six games though would hurt New Orleans in the long run, whenever punishment is handed down.
The Saints have one of the toughest schedules in football this year, with their opponents combining for a combined winning percentage of 53%. Without their best offensive weapon, the Saints draft pick status could impact several teams across the league.
Kamara did respond to the latest report saying in a tweet “@ProFootballTalk can you tell us when Jesus gon return to earth?” Kamara meant to use it as a joke with all the speculation moving around his legal status.
