Long-time play-by-play man Kenny Albert will replace the legendary Sam Rosen as the TV voice of the New York Rangers beginning next season, as first reported by Mollie Walker of the New York Post.

Joe Micheletti will return to the booth to serve as Albert’s color commentator while Alex Faust will serve as the back-up play-by-play commentator.

Albert, who is the son of another announcing great, Marv Albert, had been the radio voice of the while also serving as the lead voice for the NHL on Turner Sports. The 57-year-old also filled in for Mike Breen during New York Knicks games on MSG Network and was a regular on NFL coverage for FOX.

Faust is also making the jump from the Rangers radio booth, where he served as a back-up for Albert. He was the play-by-play man for the Los Angeles Kings and currently is the lead voice for Apple TV’s coverage of Major League Baseball.

The tandem will take over for Rosen, who is retiring after 40 seasons at the mic for the Rangers. The 77-year-old Brooklyn native began calling games for the Blueshirts in 1984 and has called more than 3,000 games during his time as lead play-by-play man for the team. He won the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award in 2016 and is a member of both the Hockey Hall of Fame and the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame.

As a part of Rosen’s farewell tour, he teamed up with long-time broadcasting partner and former Rangers goalie John Davidson — the two worked together from 1986-2006 — to call New York’s April 9 game on TNT against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Just one more game remains in Rosen’s illustrious career following the Rangers’ Monday-night clash with the Florida Panthers. After being eliminated from postseason contention on Saturday, the Blueshirts end their season on Thursday at Madison Square Garden against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
