New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau disclosed that star center Karl-Anthony Towns would miss Tuesday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors due to personal reasons, and that it is uncertain if he will travel with the team for its west-coast swing, which begins on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Lakers.
“He needs some time right now,” Thibodeau said.
Towns had missed a Feb. 26 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers after suffering a knee injury during a loss to the Boston Celtics just three days prior. He returned to play the last two games, where he was held to just 11 and 19 points.
The 29-year-old had been enjoying a brilliant first season with the Knicks since being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves over the summer. In 54 games, he is averaging 24.5 points and a career-high 13.4 rebounds per game.
He was named a starter for the All-Star Game for the first time in his career alongside Jalen Brunson, making them the first New York duo to start the mid-season celebratory game for the first time in 50 years.
