Following a 2-0 start to NBA Cup play, which featured victories over the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks are considered second-favorites to win the league’s in-season tournament — now in its second season.
They are tied for first in their group, trailing the Orlando Magic only on point differential (+37 to +14). The two teams will likely settle the issue once and for all on Dec. 3 when they face each other in NBA Cup play. Before that, though, they have a meeting with the Charlotte Hornets on Friday at noon.
Forward OG Anunoby has paced the Knicks in NBA Cup play, saving some of his best offensive play for the tournament. In New York’s first two games, he averaged 24.5 points per game, shooting 21-of-33 from the field (63.6%).
The Knicks are one of three Eastern Conference teams that make up the top four favorites for the NBA Cup, which the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics lead. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who were the hottest team to start the season, are ranked at No. 4 by DraftKings.
