The Mets are raiding the Yankees’ coaching staff again to strengthen their pitching department under manager Carlos Mendoza.
Per SNY, the Mets have hired former Yankees assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel, who will jump from the Bronx to Queens to work under pitching coach Jeremy Hefner.
Druschel had been with the Yankees since 2019, working three seasons as the organization’s minor-league manager of pitching development before joining the big-league club in 2022. He previously was the pitching coach at the University of Iowa. Both he and Mendoza worked together on the Yankees’ staff in 2022 and 2023 before Mendoza was hired to manage the Mets before the 2024 campaign.
Mendoza enjoyed a brilliant first season in Queens, navigating the Mets to the NLCS and earning NL Manager of the Year consideration — a move that could haunt the Yankees for years despite Aaron Boone being brought back.
Druschel is regarded as a developmental coach who has helped bring the best out of some young arms within the Yankees’ system. He now joins a Mets team with a crop of youngsters in the pipeline and is on the verge of jumping to the majors, including Brandon Sproat and Blade Tidwell.
