Once again, the New York Giants put together another miserable offensive effort in a 21-6 loss against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
It’s the ninth time in 14 games this season that the Giants have scored 20 points or fewer in a game this season — and it’s been especially bad the last five outings, which has seen the offense put up an average of just 11.8 points per game.
The last three games of that stretch have been without Daniel Jones — who is now done for the season because of a nagging neck issue — forcing head coach Joe Judge to roll with veteran backup Mike Glennon.
In Glennon’s three starts, the Giants are 0-3 and have scored just three offensive touchdowns; all of them coming against the Los Angeles Chargers in a 37-21 beatdown in Week 14. Glennon has done little to help the cause, completing just 50.9% of his passes for 477 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions — good for a quarterback rating of 50.0.
After completing just 13-of-24 passes for 99 yards and three interceptions against the Cowboys, Glennon was finally benched for second-year passer Jake Fromm, who was signed from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad just a few weeks ago for insurance purposes.
The Georiga product completed each of his first four passes during the Giants’ final offensive series of the game, ending the day going 6-of-12 for 82 yards.
Upon the final whistle, the Giants dropped to 4-10 — their fifth-straight season with double-digit losses to continue a miserable decade that has featured just a single playoff appearance.
With Glennon clearly not the answer, Judge finally accepted that Fromm could very well get a look on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We got to a point in the game where I wanted to see what Jake could do, point blank,” Judge said. “We weren’t doing enough moving the ball otherwise, so I wanted to make sure I had the chance to see Jake and that will obviously open up a conversation about what we’re going to do this week. We’ll talk about it as a staff and we’ll make the best decision for the team.”
For a team that has nothing to lose and massive questions at the quarterback position with Jones now out for the season, it seems like a no-brainer to give Fromm the nod this Sunday.
