Coincidentally enough, Noah Syndergaard is being pushed back again to the point where he will just miss pitching against his former team.
The Philadelphia Phillies’ starting pitcher was projected to face his old friends at the Mets on Sunday, but the team opted to push him back one more day — citing that he pitched on four day’s rest Monday against the Reds — to Monday where he will face Cincinnati for a second consecutive time.
It’s the second time this season that Syndergaard has been pushed back to seemingly avoid the Mets — the first coming in June when his Los Angeles Angels hosted New York.
The 29-year-old right-hander was traded to the Phillies at the trade deadline earlier this month.
Syndergaard has yet to face his former team, whom he spurned in free agency for a marginally bigger paycheck. He turned down the Mets’ $18.4 million qualifying offer over the winter to sign a $21 million pact with the Angels.
This coming after he said he was “fairly confident” that he would be returning to Queens for the 2022 season.
The Mets pivoted during the offseason to bolster their pitching staff elsewhere, mainly by bringing on Max Scherzer and acquiring Chris Bassitt.
