Predicting Jets 2023 record: how high can the team fly with a new quarterback?

We’re four months away from the start of the 2023-24 NFL Season and the New York Jets have one of the biggest spotlights on them for the foreseeable future.

With Aaron Rodgers in tow, Gang Green is expected to end a decade-long playoff drought even with one of the hardest schedules in football. That being said though, with the games still months away from being played, it’s a fun time to predict exactly how they’ll do against some of the league’s best.

Here’s our “way-too-early” prediction of the Jets 2023 season.

Week 1: vs. Buffalo Bills (9/11) Monday Night Football – 8:15 p.m.  EST

Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to lose in his Jets’ opener at home. Simple as that.

Result: Win (1-0)

Week 2: @ Dallas Cowboys  (9/17) – 4:25 p.m. EST

Speaking of Rodgers, he has owned the Cowboys over and over throughout his career. While that could certainly continue this season, if Dallas loses to the Giants to start the year, I have a hard time believing that they’ll fall to 0-2.

Result: Loss (1-1)

Week 3: vs. New England Patriots (9/24) – 1:00 p.m. EST

New York finally gets over the Belichick hump and beats New England for the first time since 2015. This is the game people will start thinking that this team can reach the Super Bowl.

Result: Win (2-1)

Week 4: vs. Kansas City Chiefs (10/1) Sunday Night Football – 8:15 p.m. EST

Annnd this is the week those dreams crash down in a swirling heap of misery. New York may have a lot of talent, but they aren’t beating Mahomes in prime time. A 2-2 record to start the year against one of the hardest schedules isn’t bad though!

Result: Loss (2-2)

Week 5: @ Denver Broncos (10/8) – 4:25 p.m, EST

The Jets’ season went down the drain in Denver last season due to season-ending injuries by their two best offensive players. This season, the Jets will not only get the win but should be healthy coming out of it as well.

Result: Win (3-2)

Week 6: vs. Philadelphia Eagles (10/15) – 4:25 p.m. EST

The Eagles’ dominance over the New York Giants recently pails in comparison to what they’ve done to the Jets over the last half-century. Philadelphia hasn’t lost to the Jets once since the team was created in 1960. With their best quarterback now in tow though, that record finally falls.

Result: Win (4-2)

Week 7: BYE WEEK

Week 8: @ New York Giants (10/29) – 1:00 p.m. EST

Aaron Rodgers is better than Daniel Jones. End of story.

Result: Win (5-2)

Week 9: vs. Los Angeles Chargers  (11/6) Monday Night Football – 8:15 p.m. EST

Another prime-time game for Rodgers and the Jets. My, how times have changed. New York has the talent and the matchup advantage to beat Herbert up at home.

Result: Win (6-2)

Week 10: @ Las Vegas Raiders  (11/12) Sunday Night Football – 8:20 p.m. EST

This is the type of game that will determine if these are the same Jets we’ve seen over the last decade, or if this is a new day. New York should roll over the Raiders who don’t have a ton of talent in key spots. If they win, that shows the team is capable of focusing at the right time for games.

Result: Win (7-2)

Week 11: @ Buffalo Bills (11/19) – 4:25 p.m. EST

New York is not going undefeated in their division this year. While the team has played Buffalo hard in recent years, a series split is about as honest an outcome as you’ll get.

Result: Loss (7-3)

Week 12: vs. Miami Dolphins (11/24) Black Friday – 3:00 p.m. EST

Gang Green’s season could be on the ropes with a loss to the Dolphins at home on Black Friday. Every team goes through a rough stretch and I believe it’ll happen against the division foes in back-to-back weeks.

Result: Loss (7-4)

Week 13: vs. Atlanta Falcons (12/3) – 1:00 p.m. EST

Robert Saleh’s group gets back on the right track to beat a Falcons team that doesn’t have a quarterback but has plenty of talent around him to make the team competitive.

Result: Win (8-4)

Week 14: vs. Houston Texans (12/10) – 1:00 p.m. EST

Houston is going to be bad regardless of the two newcomers from this year’s draft. New York should roll.

Result: Win (9-4)

Week 15: @ Miami Dolphins (12/17) – 1:00 p.m. EST

I have the Jets going 3-3 in their division games, one better than last season. In order for that to happen, New York is going to beat Miami in the sunshine state. We also don’t know if Tua will be healthy here which plays a major role.

Result: Win (10-4)

Week 16: vs. Washington Commanders (12/24) – 1:00 p.m. EST

Every team in the NFL loses a game that no one expects them to lose during the season. Kansas City lost to Indy last year, Philadelphia lost to a terrible Saints team, and the Jets will lose to Washington at home this season.

Result: Loss (10-5)

Week 17: @ Cleveland Browns (12/28) Thursday Night Football 8:15 p.m. EST

After a dud against Washington, the Jets get back in the win column and could wrap up the division early if things go right for them around the league. Either way, the 11 wins in Rodgers’ first year with the team will get them into the playoffs.

Result: Win (11-5)

Week 18: @ New England Patriots – TBD

The regular season ends with the Jets resting most of their starters with the division or playoff berth all but secured. The 11 wins would be the most the team has secured since the 2010 season and will most likely have them hosting a playoff game depending on how the rest of the AFC East turns out.

Result: Loss (11-6)
