Finally, the six teams of the PWHL are establishing their identities.
On Monday, the women’s professional hockey league unveiled the names and logos for its six teams ahead of the 2025 season.
New York’s team will be known as the Sirens and compete against the Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Toronto Sceptres, Minnesota Frost, and Boston Fleet.

During the PWHL’s inaugural season last year, time constraints forced the teams to go simply by their cities. For example, the team representing the Big Apple was known as PWHL New York.
“We heard loud and clear from the get-go that fans wanted traditional kind of nicknames and logos,” league vice president of brand and marketing, Kanan Bhatt-Shah, said “We wanted to move mountains and do whatever it took to give them that and names and logos that felt like they were evocative of their communities.”
New York chose the Sirens as an ode to the “sonic symphony playing” in the city, along with the goal horn that celebrates every tally.
As they expect to split their home games between Bridgeport, CT — the home of the New York Islanders’ minor-league affiliate — and the NHL club’s home at UBS Arena, the Sirens adopted the navy blue, teal, and orange colors used by the team during the mid-1990s.
“It’s about the energy of the City. There’s this vitality to it. It just makes you feel alive,” league senior vice president Jayna Hafford said. “The pace, the intensity of New York and people who live here—it’s dialed up non-stop.”
